in software, one of the most important things you can do is giving form to the invisible. a framework for checking “last success” should support every cron, daemon, app server and regularly scheduled script.

it should be purposefully focused by not asking for a current running state and instead ask for “when did you last do your task successfully?” this creates a mindset of focusing on the bigger picture to avoid getting lost in little everyday problems

background processes are the plumbers which keep sites alive and we should focus on making sure all of them, every single cron on every machine, has a hook to the mothership so we know that the little guy is still ok

So I recently setup a home theater computer to allow me to watch movies without using my laptop: Mac Mini + XBMC + Logitech Harmony remote. It really is a great combo, and makes me see what television will be like in a few years. But that is a topic for others to discuss. :]

I noticed i was still using the GOMTV.net web-based flash player to get my starcraft fix. It also bugged me that to watch a match, i had to click through 3 pages since they break up the videos by map. My memorial day weekend project was born.

At a time when RSS is only getting more popular, the Safari 4 Beta RSS feature marketing section is void of “New” claims.

Regular people still don’t use or understand RSS, so it’s understandable why Safari wouldn’t play that up very much.

I think we’ll see more products and features that are based on RSS but don’t call it that. RSS is valuable, but like other underlying technologies and data formats of the internet (HTML, HTTP, IMAP, MPEG-4), it needs to be packaged into consumer-friendly and consumer-relevant concepts, terms, and products.
